St. Andrew's Annual Charity Dinner

A Celebration of Scottish Heritage, Fellowship, and Giving Back.

WHY DO WE CELEBRATE ST. ANDREW?

St. Andrew, one of Jesus Christ's twelve apostles, is the patron saint of Scotland. According to tradition, he was martyred on an X-shaped cross, which later became a symbol of Scottish heritage.

Legend tells of a monk named St. Regulus (St. Rule), who carried relics of St. Andrew from Greece to Scotland's eastern coast, where the town of St. Andrews would later take its name.

Another famous legend dates to the ninth century. Before a battle against the Angles, King Angus prayed for divine assistance. On the morning of the battle, a white X-shaped cross was said to have appeared against the blue sky. Following their victory, St. Andrew became associated with Scotland's protection. This legend is closely connected to the Scottish Saltire.

St. Andrew's Day is celebrated annually on November 30. The Krewe of Sgian Dubh honors this Scottish tradition through our annual charity dinner, celebrating our heritage while supporting our local community.

Celtic Heritage, Community Heart

The Krewe of Sgian Dubh's St. Andrew's Dinner has come a long way from its humble beginnings—a gathering of friends at a local pub, sharing fellowship, celebrating Scottish tradition, and enjoying what may have been a rather adventurous serving of canned haggis.

What began as a simple celebration of Scotland's patron saint has grown into our 9th Annual St. Andrew's Charity Dinner, bringing together our love of Celtic heritage and our commitment to giving back to Central Louisiana.

Each year, we select a local charitable organization whose work makes a meaningful difference in our community. We place special emphasis on organizations that do not receive federal funding, recognizing that many rely heavily on community generosity to carry out their missions. Through our annual dinner, we hope to bring greater awareness to their work, encourage community involvement, and provide support where it can make a lasting impact.

OUR 2026 CHARITABLE BENEFICIARY: SIX FEET ABOVE
